We are a couple of guys that became friends while working our way through school at the University of Kentucky campus bookstore. Along with friend Marc Sotkin, we found ways to have too much fun while working . They soon changed our working hours so we would not be on at the same time. Apparently, you are not supposed to have fun at work, at least not while making $1.25 per hour. Stewart majored in English, my field was Biology. He went on into marketing and advertising, I went into teaching and Marc went to Hollywood. Well now it's 2010. I retired after 30 years and started Dream Makers Photography. Stewart has his own marketing business and makes flintlock rifles as a hobby. We both have the time and energy to attempt this task. We are acquiring sponsors to help outfit this adventure. Cabela's donated 2 very nice sleeping bags and canoe backrests. This is an important item when you over 60 years old. Johnson Outdoor is donating a great tent for the trip. We will be warm and dry during the spring rains of the Ohio Valley. Since joining Rotary in 2001, I became aware of the many great things that Rotary has accomplished. They have a commitment to wipe polio off the face of the earth. We are going to raise money for this cause. People can pledge money per mile and help us reach our goal . My local school district will be following and supporting our efforts. This will present a great educational venue for students of all ages. Marc Sotkn has a website called :boomeralley.com . We will be doing live broadcasts to his site and he has pledged to help us promote our trip. We will also be on YouTube. So now we are preparing for our big adventure. Getting in the best physical shape is a top priority. I am sure that we will have stories to tell along the way. There may be a book deal in the future. So that's about it. Two old friends fulfilling a dream they had many years ago and helping Rotary finally eliminate Polio. It is never too late to live your dreams.
